By morning, Daisuke had slept maybe three hours between the shock of waking and worries about seeing again or more if he fell back asleep. He held Ken through the night, soothed his brow the few times it furrowed, kept the darkness away as best he could.
It was all he could do.
Ken stirred, the muscles he clung to tensing and stretching as he threw off the vestiges of the night.
“Good morning.” His sleepy eyes blinked open and Daisuke stared into them, itching to brush away the slight crust that had built up at the edges. “...Sorry I made you come over like this.”
Daisuke shook his head, giving in and brushing the mess of Ken’s bangs out of his face. “I wanted to.”
He’d needed to. Needed Ken close by, the thrum of their spiritual connection not even enough for him, needed the physicality of skin against skin.
God he wanted to kiss Ken so bad. He lifted himself up on his spread hands, pausing as he hovered over Ken in his loft, his breath hitching. If he just - went back down, covered Ken with himself, drank him up and slotted between his legs -
The horrible vision of Demon doing just that flared across his memories and he scampered down the ladder.
“I’ll make us some breakfast, see you in a bit?”
“Daisuke, wait.” Ken stopped his advancing just as he reached Ken’s doorknob, and he turned back to find Ken reaching his hand down from the loft. It was obvious Ken didn’t want to let go yet.
Daisuke hadn’t either, not really. He walked over and gripped Ken’s hand, giving it a squeeze.
“I’m still...glad you came. Even if you wanted to. Thank you.”
“I’ll always be here, Ken. I’ll always come.”
Ken smiled down at him, wavering slightly half-pressed against his pillow. “I know.”
He had to go back to Odaiba after throwing together some fried egg to put on top of the rice along with the miso soup Mama - Mrs. Ichijouji always had on hand for quick breakfasts, had to go back to his own school and leave Ken and that hurt even more today.
But going to school and having a whole day of distraction helped, and by the time he crashed back in his house after soccer club practice he’d completely forgotten about the nightmare that had left him sick and reeling most of the night.
He met Ken in the Digital World to hang out and relax, just enjoy his company as Paildramon played together, just feeling their jogress hum and pulse between them pleasantly until they had to go to bed.
And with a significantly lighter heart, Daisuke crashed into his bed.

He flew over the desert, the stars twinkling in the deep night sky that reminded him of Ken’s pretty hair, dropped down next to a metallic door dug into the rough-hewn rock, floating along over the floor.
There was no light source in here, but somehow he could still see, a halo of light flowing out around him and he realized as he looked around that the light was coming from himself, his skin glowing with soft golden light as he stared in fascination at his hand, turning it this way and that as it continued to shine.
The hallway opened up in a bigger room, the shadows mostly incomprehensible, his light not strong enough to penetrate into the deep crevices, but at least there was a little more light here from the bank of television monitors in the center, pale blue as they illuminated a hunched figure.
The world clicked into place as Daisuke realized said hunched over figure was Ken. He was wearing his old Kaiser outfit, looked exactly like he did back then, but it was absolutely Ken. He sucked in a breath and floated closer, only to be rebuffed at the edge of a hole in the ground, where metal gave way to curling black ooze, prismatic and pristine as he stared at the perfect cutout of the world.
“What the hell -?” His musing was cut off by a booming voice that snapped him to attention, Ken trapped in the middle of the circle and yet somehow not falling.
“You want to play with the darkness, little prince?” Smoke floated up behind him, the voice seeming to come from every corner where the dark grabbed and tugged at the edges of the room. “Be careful what you wish for.”
The smoke formed a too-thin torso, big enough to engulf Ken completely as arms extended out from it, lengthening and lengthening until they bent back at an angle to place themselves on either side of Ken, uncomfortably reminding Daisuke of the way he placed his hands this morning.
“I can show you true darkness.” The thing lowered down, its insubstantial form pressing Ken’s upper body down, lifting his hips high. Ken’s gloved hands shook and grasped at the nothingness around him, and Daisuke pressed his own against whatever barrier kept him apart, banging against it with his fists as he watched the dark form reached between Ken’s legs and knead at his groin through his tight pants.
“Give in. This is what you wanted. To be part of the darkness.” It pressed and Daisuke could feel as Ken gave in to the familiar touch. “You thought you wanted to control it, but that’s not how it works. That’s not what you really feel.”
Ken screamed as his attacker traced around his clothed cock, slowly hardening under its strangely soft caresses, and Daisuke could only watch as it forced Ken to a full erection. Daisuke pounded the barrier until the sides of his hands bled, yelling and screaming in an inane attempt to stop the darkness and this creature and whatever was happening right now.
Instead, he watched helplessly as the creature gripped Ken’s shaft as it bulged out of whatever fabric his Kaiser outfit had been digitized from, Ken writhing and panting as his sunglasses slipped and Daisuke could see it was his Ken, the real Ken, his eyes sparkling with unshed tears as his hips snapped into the monster’s grip.
A long, wispy tongue disconnected from the living shadow on top of Ken, stuffing inself into his vocal mouth and down his throat as it fucked him. That was the only word Daisuke could imagine for this, fucking, and as Ken came with a scream so loud not even the smoke stuffed inside him muffled it completely the voice boomed out again.
“This is what you want. This is all you deserve. You don’t deserve light, love, miracles.”
“That’s wrong!” Daisuke screamed, willing Ken to hear him instead of just that voice. “Ken, you deserve happiness, please, listen to me! Hear me!”
Daisuke jolted up in his bed, on his feet and climbing through his computer before registering anything else, popping back out in Ken’s bedroom.
He was still asleep, groaning and thrashing, his covers draped off the side of the loft and nearly falling off. Daisuke climbed up into the bed, grabbing the edge of the sheets and covering them both as he smashed their chests together.
“Ken, hear me, listen to my heart.” He didn’t even know what he was doing. Ken was clearly having a nightmare but that didn’t mean it was the same one he’d just had.
But Ken’s feelings lay just on the edge of his consciousness, and the idea that wasn’t affecting him too was getting harder to rationalize.
“Please, Ken. Please. I love you.”
Ken didn’t wake, but he did calm significantly, the fear slowly ebbing away and replaced by confusion and even some joy.
“I’ll - I’ll tell you someday when you’re awake.” Daisuke settled down next to Ken, his hand finding his chest and placing itself over his pecs, feeling him through his pajamas.
He should go back to his own room. Ken hadn’t asked him over, he didn’t even know he was here, hadn’t awoken even through all of that.
He drifted off with his hand placed protectively over Ken’s heart.
